The Duke and The Beastie - Improving OpenJDK on FreeBSD
The OpenJDK BSD port has been slumbering in an out-of-tree existence for years. About a year and a half ago I was contracted by the FreeBSD Foundation to improve the port on FreeBSD, and ultimately try to get our changes accepted upstream.
In this talk I will present the current state of the project, and a bit about how we got here – but also some lessons learned from taking on such a big project and trying to upstream it.

Hubzilla pioneering a safer, more resilient fediverse
Hubzilla is a powerful free and open source server for what has become known as the fediverse – or sometimes the social web. Throughout it's development it has pioneered some important features for making federated social networks safer as well as more private, resilient, inclusive and censorship resistant. This talk will explore these features, and how they fit together to contribute to a safer and more inclusive fediverse.
